Attendance matters at KWPS

At Kirkham & Wesham Primary School, every day counts. Good attendance helps children to learn well, build friendships, develop confidence and feel part of school life.

We want every child to Belong, Believe and Be the Best They Can Be, and regular attendance is an important part of this.

Reporting your child’s absence

If your child is absent from school, please contact the School Office as soon as possible and no later than 9.05am on the first day of absence.

Absences must be reported by:

Telephone: 01772 682866
Email: office@kirkhamwesham.lancs.sch.uk

Please provide your child’s name, class and the reason for absence.

Class Dojo must not be used to report absences. Messages sent to teachers or through classroom messaging platforms may not be seen before registration and are not monitored for attendance purposes.

Requesting leave during term time

Parents/carers must request permission from the Headteacher before taking a child out of school during term time.

Leave during term time will only be authorised in exceptional circumstances. Family holidays, days out and leisure activities are not usually considered exceptional circumstances.

Please complete the Leave of Absence Request Form and return it to the School Office before making any travel arrangements.

Penalty notices

If leave is taken without permission, or if unauthorised absence reaches the national threshold, the school may request that Lancashire County Council considers issuing a penalty notice.

From August 2024, penalty notices may be issued at £160 per parent, per child, reduced to £80 if paid within 21 days for a first offence.
